TagoKoto Terms of Service
Last updated:
These terms apply to your use of the TagoKoto Android app (“the app”) and this website. The app and website are provided by ALEX POLO (“the developer”, “we”, “us”). By installing or using the app, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
Our Privacy Policy explains how the app handles your data.
1. What TagoKoto is
TagoKoto is a free app for keeping documents, images and saved logins in an encrypted vault on your Android device. It works without a TagoKoto account and without a developer-run server. Some optional features rely on other services, such as Google Drive backup and sharing to other apps. Section 6 covers these.
This website only provides information about the app and its policies.
2. Who may use the app
You must be at least 18 years old, and able to agree to these terms where you live.
3. Your licence to use the app
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to use the app on Android devices you own or control, under these terms and the terms of the store you got it from. The app, its name and its logo belong to the developer. These terms do not transfer any ownership of them to you.
4. Acceptable use
You agree to use the app only for lawful purposes. You may not:
- use the app to store or share content that you have no right to hold or share, or that breaks the law;
- use the app to infringe the privacy or other rights of other people;
- distribute modified copies of the app, or present the app as your own;
- interfere with, or try to bypass, the app's security features on a device or vault that is not yours.
5. Your content and credentials
You keep all rights to the documents, images, notes and logins you put in the app. They stay on your device. The developer cannot see or access them.
You are responsible for:
- the content you store, and making sure you are allowed to store it;
- keeping your PIN, any backup passphrase and any export passwords secret and remembered;
- the logins you save in the password manager, and how you use them;
- protecting your device, for example with a screen lock and current system updates;
- keeping your own copies of anything you cannot afford to lose.
6. Backup and recovery have limits
- No PIN recovery. Your encryption keys stay on your device. We have no copy of your data or a way to reset your PIN. If you forget your PIN, lose your device, or delete your data without a backup you can restore, your documents cannot be recovered by us or anyone else.
- Backup is optional and manual. Google Drive backup is off by default. Backups are made only when you run them, and they reflect your vault at that moment.
- Backup does not cover everything. A backup contains your documents (with their titles and recognised text) and your saved logins. Tags, folders, favourites, “Private” markings, expiry reminders, version history, the activity log, settings and your PIN are not backed up.
- Your passphrase is the only key. Backups are encrypted with a passphrase you choose. The passphrase is never stored. If you lose it, the backup cannot be decrypted.
- Availability depends on others. Google Drive backup depends on Google's services and on your Google account. We do not promise that a backup or restore will always be available or will succeed.
- Optional erase. If you turn on the setting that erases the vault after repeated wrong PIN attempts, reaching that limit permanently deletes the vault on the device.
7. Sharing, exports and third-party services
When you share or export a document, you send a copy outside the vault. Plain shares and time-limited copies are not encrypted. Copies you send are governed by the apps and people that receive them. We cannot recall or delete those copies.
Some features rely on services we do not control, including Google Play services, ML Kit, Google sign-in, Google Drive and the apps you share to. Your use of those services is governed by their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for them.
8. Security
We design the app to protect your data, as described in the Privacy Policy. No software, device or encryption is completely secure, and we cannot promise the app will prevent every kind of access to your data. This is especially true if your device is compromised, unlocked or shared, or if someone else learns your PIN.
9. Availability, changes and updates
We may update, change, suspend or stop offering the app or any feature, including support for particular devices or Android versions. Updates are delivered through the app store. Some features depend on your device, for example biometric hardware or Google Play services. We are not obliged to provide support, updates or any particular feature.
10. Disclaimer
To the extent permitted by law, the app and this website are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. This includes warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and that the app will be error-free or uninterrupted, or that data will never be lost.
11. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for loss of data, documents, credentials or access, arising from your use of the app or website. This includes loss caused by a forgotten PIN or passphrase, a lost or damaged device, deleted data, or third-party services.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law, or affects any consumer rights you have by law.
12. Ending your use
You can stop using the app at any time by deleting your data and uninstalling it. Remember to remove any Google Drive backups and shared copies you no longer want, as described in the Privacy Policy. If you seriously breach these terms, your licence to use the app ends.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. When we do, we will post the new version on this page and change the “Last updated” date above. If you keep using the app after an update, you accept the updated terms.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by Philippine Law, subject to any mandatory consumer protection laws where you live.
